Sioux City, Iowa -- Siouxlanders are encouraged to “Clothes the Gap” through Sioux City Public Schools Foundation’s annual cold weather clothing campaign. The campaign supports families in need at the Sioux City Community School District.
Through December 16, individuals interested in donating may drop off new or gently used winter wear such as coats, hats, gloves/mittens, boots, sweaters, and long pants for toddlers, youth, and teens at your local school office, school district’s downtown office, located at 627 4th St., or at the Foundation office, located at the Clark Early Childhood Center, 4315 Hamilton Blvd. Personal care hygiene items and laundry detergent are also being collected. Individuals may also give monetary donations which are used to purchase needed items.
On average, 70% of the District’s 15,000 students and their families are in need of some assistance. Clothing can change a life and can help youth build the confidence to succeed. A warm coat, shoes that fit, and a wardrobe of school clothing help children and youth put their best foot forward every day.
The Sioux City Public Schools Foundation, a non-profit, exists to support the Sioux City Community School District with innovative programs that cannot be achieved through limited state and federal funding. Under its core focus area of Equity, the foundation strives to support students from low-income homes. It is committed to “closing the achievement gap” and diligently works to provide opportunities for students in and beyond the classroom. The foundation’s equity-focused programs include the Caring Closet, Project Back to School, Clothes the Gap and Adopt A Graduate. The Foundation relies on its relationships with area businesses, organizations, and churches to continue to further its mission to support the students, teachers, and staff of the Sioux City Community School District.
